Here is how I get an untamed parrot to trust me within a week as well as step up onto a stick.
Step1:
Place the bird cage where you spend time most of the day. Cover the cage for two days. Talk to the parrot as much as you can. Only change food and water, don't try to clean the cage the first two days, because that would upset your parrot and you want to avoid upsetting him/her at all times.
Step 2: third day
Approach the cage slowly, talking to the bird in a calm, soothing manner. Open the cage cover half way, so the parrot can see you. Change the food and water, calming the bird by talking. Try taking out the bottom tray of cage to clean it, but slowly, so the parrot doesn't get frightened. If it shows any fear, back off.
Step 3 - Next 2 days
Repeat procedure step 2, but uncover the cage during the day, so the parrot can see you all the time and follow your movements. Place your step-up stick against the cage so the parrot can touch it or try chewing it. The stick must placed in such a way that it won't drop or fall when your parrot touches or bites it. Keep talking to your pet parrot as to a child during the day.
Step 4: Day 6
Follow routine procedure and let parrot eat first. If your parrot has tried to play with the stick the previous day, you can try holding the stick into the cage with the word "step-up". If it hasn't touched the stick yet, you'll have to wait until it does, before trying to get it to step up.
Step 5
Always follow routine procedure first. Start training after parrot has finished eating. Reward the parrot with words plus a treat like a peanut or stick of dry vermicelli or whatever it really likes every time it learns something new.
